Mrs. Schmidt was born in Baden, Germany and came to Canada in 1854 and two years later she was united in marriage to the faithful husband who with her, endured the many hardships and trials so common to the early settlers.
She had been married nearly fiftyfive years, having celebrated her golden wedding five years ago. She was the mother of eight children, six sons, Nicholas of New Hamburg, Andrew of Toledo Ohio who was unable to be present, Thomas, Edward, and James of Kenilworth, John who predeceased her nine years ago and two daughters, Mrs. John Neff, whose constant care and devotion made lighter the weary days of suffering; and Mrs. John Stortz.
Mrs. Schmidt was a faithful wife and loving mother and lived an honest and christian life, winning the respect and esteem of all who knew her.
The funeral took place on Saturday the 4th to Sacred Heart Church Kenilworth where requiem high mass was celebrated by Rev. Father Kehoe, after which the remains were borne to the grave in Sacred Heart Cemetery by four of her sons and two grandsons George and Edward Stortz.
Her sister Mrs. Pringlemire of Arthur and one brother Mr. B. Shonker and a niece Miss Shoniker of Trenton, Ont were present at the funeral."
