Jane K. Horrocks, who was the fashion editor of The Citizen-Journal from 1946 to 1979, died Sunday at the Westminster Thurber retirement home. She was 90.
Born and raised in Columbus, Horrocks attended East High School and graduated when she was 16.
She graduated with a bachelor's degree from the College of Fine Arts at Ohio State University.
Horrocks served with the Red Cross in India during World War II. Shortly after returning to the United States, she began to work for The Citizen-Journal.
Horrocks' work was known for its wit and the sketches that accompanied her stories, said her niece, Lisa Reis, of the East Side.
After retiring from the paper, Horrocks reviewed books for the Ohioana Library.
"She was suitable for being a fashion editor; she was as well-dressed as anyone in the city has ever been," said Ruth Haddock, who met Horrocks when she moved to Columbus in 1975 and was her neighbor in Clintonville.
"She was great fun and a great person," Haddock said.
Besides her niece, Horrocks is survived by her sister-in-law, Marcia Kehrer.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John Horrocks, a psychologist and retired OSU professor whose specialty was adolescence.
No public memorial service will be held, the family said.
