Cisco - Carl Arthur Ziehr passed away on January 3, 2012. Services are 2:30 pm Saturday January 7, 2012 at Redeemer Lutheran Church with Pastor Eric Stinnette officiating. Burial will follow at Redeemer Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Friday, January 6, 2012 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Summers-Chambers Funeral Home in Cisco.
He was born on April 13, 1933, in Cisco, Texas to Reinhardt William and Lydia Bernstein Ziehr. Carl graduated Cisco High School in 1953 and Cisco Junior College in 1955. Carl was drafted into the Army in 1955 and served two years at Ranger Central in Fort Lewis, Washington. After his discharge he worked at several businesses in Cisco before marrying Mary Ann Handrick in Albany, Texas on June 29, 1963. He and Mary Ann lived on their farm south of Cisco the remainder of his life. Carl was a farmer and rancher and worked part time for Texaco for 20 years. He was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Cisco, Texas.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Eugene Ruben Ziehr and sisters Marie Winge and Juanita Cockrell Brown. Carl is survived by his wife Mary Ann of Cisco, TX; his son Karl of Abilene TX; and his two daughters Nancy Stewart and husband Joe of Eastland TX; Carol Griffin and husband Robin of Mansfield TX. He is also survived by 6 grandchildren; Joshua Ziehr of Fort Worth TX, Nicole Ziehr McMillian and husband Brett of Mansfield, Courtney Stewart of Eastland TX, Chad Stewart attending School in Durham NC; Ryan Griffin serving as an Army Specialist at Fort Drum, NY, Adam Griffin and Robin Griffin Jr. of Mansfield TX and great granddaughter Makenna McMillian; Carl is also survived by a brother Alvin Ziehr and wife Ruth of Pearland, TX and sister Edna Reich of Cisco.
