He was born March 29, 1926, west of Collyer to Peter and Otillia (Waldman) Ziegler. He grew up in Collyer and graduated from St. Michael Catholic Grade School and Collyer High School.
He married Marlene Zeigler on June 15, 1955, in Oakley. She preceded him in death. He entered the U.S. Postal Service as a postal clerk in June 1948 and was appointed acting postmaster in November 1950. He was appointed postmaster in April 1951, serving until his retirement Sept. 3, 1990. He was a U.S. Navy veteran during World War II.
Survivors include a daughter, Cynthia Parsons, Hutchinson; two brothers, Pius Ziegler, WaKeeney, and Robert Ziegler, Hays; a sister, Elfrieda Heimerman, Colwich; a granddaughter; and a great-granddaughter.
He was preceded in death by a grandson.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Michael Catholic Church, Collyer; burial in church cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Schmitt Funeral Home, WaKeeney.
A vigil will be at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to the Leukemia Foundation or the American Red Cross in care of the funeral home.
