Please be advised that somewhere along the way her maiden name spelling of Flis was changed to Flees.

Also be advised that some of her family members obituaries ie: her daughters lists her married name as Novak so I am not sure which is correct but her obituary lists it as Nowak.

Mrs. Nowak died Monday at Munson Medical Center in Traverse City after a long illness. The former Martha Flis was born July 25, 1885 at Manistee, the daughter of John and Josephine Flis, and as a small child moved with her family to Centerville township in Leelanau County. She was a member of Holy Rosary Church and rosary society, the 3rd Order of St. Francis, and the Traverse City Catholic Daughters of America. On July 30, 1906 at Cedar she was married to Sylvester Nowak, who died in 1962. A son, Joseph, and three brothers also preceded her in death. Surviving are: two daughters, Mrs. Kenneth (Mary) Watson of Cedar and Mrs. Benedict (Sophie) Rosinski of Warren; two sons, Sylvester and Stephen, both of Cedar; 22 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Mrs. Rose Persik and Mrs. Anna Popa of Cedar and Mrs. Frances Tafelski of Central Lake; and two brothers Dan Flis of Northport and Michael Flis of Glen Arbor.
