Henry Harsche, 95, Shields, died March 4, 1994, at a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 11:30 a.m. MST Tuesday, at St. Philomena Catholic Church, Selfridge. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Visitation begins at 9 a.m. Monday, at Weigel Funeral Home, Mandan, and continues one hour prior to services at the church. A parish vigil will be held at 7:30 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Henry Harsche was born Dec. 15, 1898, in Krasna, Russia, the son of George and Barbara (Bachmeier) Harsche. He was raised and educated in Russia and Shields. He came to the United States in 1909. Henry married Birgitta Klein Jan. 30, 1921, at Strasburg. She died in December 1976. He then married Florence Kwasiewski in 1979. He ranched in the Shields area from 1928 until his retirement. He was on the school board in Selfridge during that time. He had been living with his daughter in Bismarck for the last five years.
He is survived by two sons and two daughters-in-law, Emmanuel, Shields; Joseph and Edith, Aberdeen, S.D.; and Wanda Harsche, Shields; five daughters and two sons-in-law, Barbara Gower, Magdalena Davis, Tillie and Joseph Dilger, and Helen and Jake Loeb, all of Bismarck; and Rose Basart, Verndale, Wash.; one brother, John, Bismarck; one sister, Rose Mattern, Bismarck; 25 grandchildren; 49 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.
