Marie has been described as fiesty, opinionated and stubborn. She all those and also a loyal friend, lover of animals especially those down on their luck, and a big old softy for her grandchild and great-grandchildren. She also had a quick wit and sharp sense of humor. She was a fun-loving grandma, avid gardener of flowers and vegetables feeding neighbors and friends through the years. She absolutely loved sports. So much that when planning her move to Brenham stated she would not live in a place without ESPN. Thank goodness Kruse had it! She played basketball in high school and bowled until her late 80s once winning the Senior Olympic Games in San Antonio with a near-perfect 289. It was truly a sad day when her doctor told her she had to stop bowling.
She had many jobs through the years-bookkeeping, retail, floral arranger, seamstress and was honored as the oldest receptionest for the H and R Block company having worked for 15 years for them in San Antonio. However, the things she enjoyed the best were her hand work. She always had a project going either crochet, knitting, embroidery or sewing. She adhered to the belief that idle hands were the Devils workshop.
Marie is preceded in death by her parents, two husbands, sister Lydia S. Symark Rivers, brothers Otto Symank, Oscar Symank, Earl Symank, grandson Ricky Dave Symank, and great-grandson James Symank.
