Betty Irene Zordel passed from this life April 4, 2009, at Freeman Hospital in Joplin, Mo.

She is the fifth child of Harry and Ethel Kean, born June 15, 1927, in Tribune, Kan.

She married Charlie Zordel in Payullup, Wash., before returning to Ransom, Kan., to become a farmer's wife. There she gave birth to her first two daughters. The third daughter was born after a move to Longmont, Colo., where Betty and Charlie operated a Grade A dairy farm. There long awaited son was born after relocating to the farm outside of Goodman, Mo. After leaving the farm, Betty worked alongside Charlie at their feedmill in McElhaney, Mo., where their fourth daughter was born. Later, Betty and Charlie moved to their farm and horse ranch on Spring River, northeast of Miami. She remained there until her death.

She was a member of the Oklahoma Home Community Education Club, the First Christian Church and volunteered for many community projects.

She is survived by her children and their spouses, Karla Frick, Adonna and Don Helmig, Jerilyn and Rick Craig, Chuck Zordel, and Delauna and Craig Fletcher; 10 grandchildren, Michael Barnes, John Penalosa, Mike and Whitney Schroeder, Andrea Penalosa, John and Corie Wells, Gabe Craig, Mark Zordel, Kali Zordel, Micayla Fletcher, Chaz Fletcher; three great-grandchildren, Kendel Wells, Connor Wells and Gracie Schroeder; her sister, Helen Smades, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Charlie; her parents, two brothers and one sister.

Family will be available for visitation at Paul Ingram Thomas Funeral Home, Miami, Okla., at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 8, 2009.

Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, April 9, 2009, at the First Christian Church in Miami, Okla. Burial will follow at G.A.R. Cemetery.

Serving as pallbearers will be John Penalosa, Mike Schroeder, John Wells, Gabe Craig, Mark Zordel and Stephen Stilley. Honorary pallbearers will be Michael Barnes, Chaz Fletcher and Kurt Frick.
