Robert A. "Bob" Franssen of Eugene, died Feb. 5 of age-related causes. He was 90. Franssen was born Aug. 9, 1913, in St. Libory, Neb., to William and Rose Roepker Franssen. He married Clarice Crowe Randle in Vancouver, Wash., in 1954. He lived in Nebraska and Chicago before settling in this area in 1937. He served in the Army during World War II. He worked primarily as a general contractor specializing in insurance claims. He also owned a restaurant in the 1940s, worked in mills and was employed as a commercial fisherman. He was a past member of an Elks Lodge. He also belonged to the National Rifle Association and was an active member of St. Peter Catholic Church in Eugene. He enjoyed fishing, gardening and spending many winters in Arizona. He also enjoyed working in his shop and will be remembered as being very inventive. He especially enjoyed the ocean and spending time with his grandchildren. Survivors include his wife; a son, James of Salem; two daughters, Jeanne Garst of Milwaukie and Coralee Baker of Eugene; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Chapel of Memories Funeral Home in Eugene is in charge of arrangements.
