Harlan Franssen, 22, veteran of World War II and a son of Mrs. Rose Franssen, 212 East Eighth, drowned yesterday afternoon while swimming in a sandpit just north of the Bismark road a mile east of Grand Island...

Harlan Joseph Franssen was born May 25, 1925, at St. Libory to William H. and Rose Roepker Franssen. He attended district school and completed his education at Senior High school in Grand Island in 1943. He entered the army and served in the infantry until his honorable discharge. Following his discharge, he made his home with his mother at 212 East Eighth.
Surviving are his mother, two brothers, Louis and Robert, both of Eugene, Ore., and two sisters, Mrs. Julia Wieck, Vanport City, Ore., and Mrs. Richard Gallagher, Rapid City, S. D. He was preceded in death by his father, who died Apr. 15, 1941, and one brother, Herman. Funeral services will be held Tuesday morning at 9:30 o'clock in St. Mary's cathedral. Burial will be in St. Libory cemetery. The rosary will be recited Monday evening at 7:30 in the Livingston-Sondermann funeral home.
