LYMAN D RUBERG DIES AT HOSPITAL
Game Warden for Many Years Was Well Known to Sportsmen Of This Vicinity – Resigned A Year Ago
Shelburne Falls Feb. 8 – Lyman D Ruberg, 64, one of the best known men in Western Massachusetts sporting circles, died today at Franklin county hospital, Greenfield, after more than a year of poor health. For 27 years Mr. Ruberg was game warden of this district, resigning about a year ago.
He was born at Hancock and spent his boyhood at Florida mountain, on the Mohawk Trail. His first duty as warden was in Berkshire county in 1899. He then served 18 years in various parts of the state. In 1907 he located to Greenfield but since 1917 had made his home in Shelburne.
Mr Ruberg was known as one of the most diligent and fearless wardens in the state and yet was one of the most popular. He was respected by all true sportsmen. He was keenly active in the interests of sportsmen in this section and was instrumental in the organization of practically all fish and game clubs in this locality. He did much to advance wildlife throughout this section through securing fish and game for release in this territory.
Besides his widow Clara, he leaves a sister Mrs. Jerome Brown of Florida mountain and a brother Henry J Ruberg of Los Angeles. The funeral will be Monday afternoon at 2.30 at Johnsons funeral home here, Rev. F. W. Hemingway pastor of Shelburne center church officiating. Burial will be in Florida cemetery.
