NEW GLARUS – After a short illness, Mrs. Anna Kathryn Hauser died at her home.

She was born in Schwanden, Canton Glarus, Switzerland on May 4th 1840 and was received in holy baptism on the 10th of May the same year. With her parents she was among the founders of the Colony of New Glarus. They left their native country in August of the same year. Here she attended the instructions in religion and was confirmed by Reverend Zimmerman in the year 1857. Her years of youth were full of hardships and hard labor as they were for all pioneers of this colony. January 5th 1865 she joined in the bonds of matrimony with Casper Hauser. They lived on a farm 3 ½ miles north of New Glarus. Their union was blessed with seven children, five daughters and two sons and to them she was a faithful, loving mother. About seventeen years ago Mr. and Mrs. Hauser moved to New Glarus and lived the retired life in their home in the southern part of New Glarus. Her husband preceded her in death October 15, 1914 and since then she has lived alone in her home and was able to take care of herself until about a week ago when she took sick. Her children were at her bedside tenderly caring for her until Saturday when she was called from this earthly life. She reached the age of 78 years, 10 mo. and 11 days and leaves to mourn five daughters, two sons, two brothers, eighteen grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren besides other relatives.

Funeral services were held at the Reformed church Tuesday (March 18th) afternoon.
