Funeral services for Lallie Thies, 98, of Ivanhoe were held at 1:30 p.m., Tuesday, February 9, at the Birk Funeral Home in Ivanhoe with Pastor Robert Neff officiating. Burial was in the Hendricks City Cemetery. The congregation sang "Blessed Assurance," "How Great Thou Ari," and "Hymn of Praise." Margaret Swanson was organist. The Honorary casketbearers were Gene Faulds, Eldro Juenke, Manley Widmark, and Alden Dorn. The caskelbearers were Lyle Thies, Patrick Thies. Sheldon Steele, Dana Bartz, George Peters, and Clyde Krog.

Mr. Thies died on Thursday, February 4 at the Divine Providence Health Center in Ivanhoe.

Lallie Thies was born on August 11, 1900 to parents Fred and Marie (Bartz) Thies, the first baby boy to be born in the new town of Ivanhoe. He lost his mother at an early age and lived with his Grandma Ida Bartz until she passed away. He then made his home with the George and Millie Bartz family. He attended rural school in Ash Lake and Shaokatan Townships. In his early years, Lallie worked in a shoe shop and livery stable.

On December 4, l919, Lallie was married to Hulda Peters in Brookings, SD. The couple lived and farmed their entire married life in the Ivanhoe and Hendricks area and had been married for over 79 years. In 1968, they retired to Ivanhoe, where they lived until entering the Divine Providence Nursing Home in 1991. Lallie was a member of the Ivanhoe Methodist Church. He enjoyed playing and watching baseball, playing horseshoes, dancing, bowling, playing cards, and visiting with his family and friends.

Lallie is survived by his wife, Hulda; his daughter, Marietta Stegner and her husband, Milton of Hendricks; and his son, Sheldon (Bob) Thies and his wile, Kathie of Ivanhoe. He is also survived by seven grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild, and one brother, Cliff Thies of Crookston.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one grandchild, one great grandchild, one son-in-law, and one grandson in-law.
