Rev. J. G. Barnett of the Baptist Church in Emerson conducted the services. A quartet from the Baptist Church, consisting of Mr. and Mrs. I. N. Cheney, Mrs. W. H.Cramer, and C. D. Greenwood, sang.
Burial was made in the Hastings Cemetery by the side of her husband who preceded her in death just 26 years ago.
Sarah Lake was born in Missouri, May 12, 1838 and died in South Pasadena, California, January 16, 1938 at the age of 89 years, 7 months, and 3 days.
When two years old she, with her parents, moved to Illinois where she lived until her marriage to Isham Dalton, September 15, 1855, at Mount Sterling, Illinois. They came to Iowa a few years later and located at Glenwood.
To this union were born ten children, the older child, William, having died in infancy; Nine Pettigrew of South Pasadena, California; Alice Trimble of Ordway, Colorado; George Dalton of Missouri Valley, Iowa; Myra Whitting of Montana; Grace Olvier of Emerson, Iowa; Gus Dalton, Sedalia, Missouri; Mamie Jones of Des Moines; and Clemmie Byers and Fred Dalton, who preceded their mother in death a few years ago.
She was a true Christian all her life and was strong in her faith until the end of her earthly life.
She is survived by two sons and five daughters, 17 grandchildren, and 14 great grandchildren.
Her greatest interest was in her home and family. She worked hard for their interests and for their education. She was dearly loved by her children and grandchildren and there is a vacant place that can never be filled. She lived in Hastings seven years and two years in Emerson where she had many friends.
Her husband died Apri, 1902 and since that time she has made her home with her children. The last six months were spent in South Pasadena, California, with her daughter, Nina.
