Oscar enlisted in the Marines 15 July 1964 in Los Angeles, CA. He graduated sometime during 1964 with Platoon 262, from the San Diego MCRD.
He arrived in Vietnam and was assigned to India Company, 3rd Battalion, 5th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division. Jose died of multiple gunshot wounds to his body, at Razorback Ridge (Hill 362) near the DMZ and 12 kilometers west of Cam Lo, during Operation Hastings. Jose was one of 28 Marines that died during combat action against hostile forces.
Jose was single and served his country for two years.
Survived by his parents, Bonifacio and Mary D Cruz and 1 sister, of 1020 E Pennsylvania, Escondido, California.
