Orville Walter Meeker passed away at Washington County Hospital suddenly at the age of 84, on March 15, 2012.

Funeral services will be held at 2p.m. on Monday March 19, 2012 at the St Paul Lutheran Church 226 Washington Street Wapell. with Pastor Chris Hinkle offficiate. Burial will take place in Letts Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 3-6p.m. on Sunday March 18, 2012 at St Paul Lutheran Church with the family present. Dudgeon=McCulley Funeral home is in charge of arrangements.

Orville was born on March 4, 1928 in Warsaw Illinois to Fred and Grace Hilst Meeker. He was raised in Green Valley, Illinois. He graduated from Green Valley High School and was proud of his history as a basketball star and school record holder in the 440 yard dash. He married Hildegarde Louise Lovely Detjen on February 6, 1949.

The young couple farmed in oakville until 1959 when they moved to a farm in Letts, where he made a successful career in farming. He vreated Orville Meeker and sons purebred swine buisness and his genetic lines of Hampshires and Durocs were sold nationally and internationally. His livestock won many awards. He worked tirelesssly and loved his chosen field and only retired when forced by health reasons.

Lovely passed away on January 2, 1994, Orville married Marcy Gerst on July 12, 1997.

He was the quintessential Iowa farmer, husband, father, brother, grandfather, nd friend to many. He came from Modest means and worked hard and instilled his work ethic into his family. He led a christian life. He was a founding member of the St Paul Lutheran Church in Wapello. Iowa.

Orville is survived by his wife, Marcy Meeker, his sons, Dr David Meeker and wife Beatriz of the Washington D.C. area. Tom Meeker and wife Ann of Muscatine, Donald Meeker and wife Kris of Muscatine, Rev. Dennis Meeker and wife Lorna of Kisumu Kenya. Africa. Dr Brian Meeker and wife Linda of Vinton. and Dr Mark Meeker and wife Shari of Galesburg Il. step daughters, Beth Fleenor and husband Brian of Burlington, and Dawn Miller and husband Stanley of Iowa City; 26 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildrem two sisters, LuVerne Johns of Fort Lauderdale By the Sea Florida. and Lois Brenneman of Pekin Il. and three sisters in law, Bernadine Meeker of Delavan Il. Delores Chapman of Emden Il. and Joseohine Henry of Galesburg Il.
Besides his first wife Lovely, he was preceded in death tragically by his son, Sreven Meeker on September 26, 1985, his parents, and six brothers. Clarence, Earl, Harley, Roy, Robert, and Floyd.
