Elizabeth was born in the German colony of Norka, Russia, to Adam and Margaretta (Hempel) Hein. She immigrated with her family to the United States, arriving in Sutton, Nebraska June of 1878. In 1881, she married John Conrad Burbach in Sutton, Nebraska. They were the parents of Christina, John, Mollie, Elizabeth, Mary, George, Pete, Emma, and Ben Burbach.
