Sivert Martinussen Hopstad was was born 27 mar 1890 in Hopstad, Norway to Martinus Sjursen Hopstad and Elen Sofie Evensen. He was the 5th and youngest child. He married Inga Petrine Johnsdatter Buaro on 15 Sep 1915 at Roan Kirke, Bjornor, Sor Trondelag, Norway.
Sivert became the owner of the family farm at Hofstad, when his father died since his older brother, who would have been next in line, Menelai, had emigrated to the USA in 1899 and signed away his rights to the land.
Sivert died in 1972. His parents and his wife preceded him in death. He was survived by children: Ellen Marie (Anton) Engan, Jenny Oleanna (Ole) Fauske, Sigvart Ingmar Lothe Hopstad, Lilly Marie (Edvard) Fagerdal, and Ivarna Pauline (Magne) Stein.
