He was deployed with the UK contingent of NATO forces in Afghanistan.
Sgt Taylor and LCpl Michael Foley were serving as part of Task Force Helmand when they were shot and killed at the main entrance to Lashkar Gah Main Operating Base in Helmand province by an Afghan National Army soldier.
Aged 33, Sgt Taylor was from Bournemouth. He joined the Royal Marines in 1997 and had extensive operational experience. It is understood that he worked in intelligence and had only arrived in Afghanistan four weeks before his death. Described as selfless, dedicated and outstandingly professional, he was a natural leader and an inspiration to his colleagues. He was also a great sportsman and enjoyed playing rugby.
Sgt Taylor leaves behind his beloved wife, Nicola, and their young son, Roan; his mother Julia, father Phil, brother Jake, extended family and friends.
Funeral with full military honours was held on April 12, 2012 at Christchurch Priory, Dorset.
