    Alexander Ratz, 91, passed away peacefully May 15, 2004. He was born April 12, 1913 in Aurora.
    At the age of eight, his family moved to Romania where he lived until he returned to Aurora at age 16. Her served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was employed by Stephens-Adamson for 35 years before his retirement.
    He and his wife, Mary, were celebrating their 63rd wedding anniversary this week.
    He was a good husband, father and grandfather who loved his family dearly. He was a die-hard Cubs fan and also enjoyed working in the garden, sharing the vegetables and roses he grew with his neighbors.
    Alex was a charter member of St. George Church, helping dig its foundation in the 1930's and has been an active member since.
    He is survived by his wife, Mary; his daughter, Linda (Jeff) Slinde of Glen Ellyn; his son, Jerry Ratz of Aurora; two granddaughters, Cory Slinde and Vicki Slinde; a brother-in-law and a sister-in-law, Mike and Mary Krachon; and nephews, Michael (Carol) Krachon, Dennis (Debbie) Krachon, and Mircea (Corrina) Saphonie. He also leaves behind his faithful dog, Chelsea.
    He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Maria Ratz; three brothers and two sisters.
    Funeral services will be Tuesday, May 18, 2004 at 11:30 a.m. from THE DALEIDEN MORTUARY to St. George at 12:00 p.m. Fr. Frederick Peterson, O.S.B. will officiate with interment at Lincoln Memorial Park.
