Charles W. Dempze, 80, vice-president and general manager of the Gaynor Cranberry Co., where he began work at the age of 12, died recently. He was taken to the hospital July 3 following a stroke.

Mr. Dempze managed the Gaynor marsh for 40 years. He was also president of the Dempze Cranberry Co., which is managed by a son, and director of the Elm Lake Cranberry Co., a charter member of the Cranmoor Cooperative Co., and was also a director of that organization.

Funeral Services were held in St. John's Lutheran Church, Pittsville, Wisconsin, the Rev. E. T. Keller officiating with burial in Forest Hill Cemetery.

The son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Gustave Dempze was born October 25, 1887, and came to the Pittsville-Cranmoor area as a child. He married Mary Prusynski in Wisconsin Rapids in November 1917. She died May 18, 1965.

Surviving are a son, Gordon C. Dempze, Biron; two daughters, Mrs. Edmund Heller, Sparta, and Mrs. Alfred Arendt, Nekoosa; a sister, Mrs. Louis Mundt, Pittsville; a half-brother, Henry Neuber, Sparta; 13 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Two daughters, a sister and a half-sister preceded him in death.
