On April 8, 1945, Clarence married the love of his life, Doris Songstad in Luverne, MN. The couple made their home in Sioux Falls where he owned and operated many service stations, most notably Rube's 66, for 17 years before working for American Freight for 17 years. Clarence retired from work in 1987.
Clarence filled his free time with many hobbies and interests. None of which were more important to him that his love of racing. In 1954 he helped found Huset's Speedway where he sat on the Board of Directors, was a member of the Hall of Fame and later became a co-owner with his two sons, Steve and Greg.
In his younger years Clarence also played softball. He was a part of four state championship teams. He also enjoyed bowling. In fact, he met Doris at the bowling alley he was working at after he returned from the war. Clarence was a member of Brandon Lutheran Church and a lifetime member of the DAV, VFW Post 628 and the American Legion Post 15.
Above all Clarence loved his family. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather who will be greatly missed by all those who shared his life.
Clarence was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Ruby; brother, George; and grandson, Nathan Bertsch.
