Mrs. Sophia B. Brack was born at Otis, Kansas, on the 8th day of December, 1884, as the daughter of Mr. George and Mrs. Kate Schlegel. In the parental home she grew up to womanhood, receiving the general school education and a Christian instruction in the home and church.
On the 24th of November, 1904, she was united in the holy wedlock with Jake B. Brack, of Otis, which union was blessed with three children, two boys and one girl. The Lord also blessed her and her family with many earthly and spiritual gifts, her home life was very happy. Up to the last year, our late sister in Christ was in good health, but two weeks before Christmas she was taken ill and from that time she had to suffer at home and at the hospital in Great Bend, where her husband took her that she might always have the best care of the doctor and a special nurse. From the 11th of January till the 5th of April she was confined to her bed, only on some days she could walk around a little. Her end came sooner than we expected, as liver trouble set in and took her away on the morning of the 8th of June, at the age of 40 years and six months.
She leaves to mourn her death her husband and two boys, Arthur and Harrison, and one girl, Stella; also her aged mother, Mrs. Schlegel; seven brothers, four sisters, a host of near relatives and many good friends and neighbors.
The funeral services were held in the home six miles northeast of town and at the Lutheran church, of which she is a faithful member. The very many beautiful flower offerings and the big audience in the church showed the high esteem in which she was held. The six brothers of Mrs. Brack acted as pallbearers, the choir and male quartette sang impressive songs. Rev. H. E. Wunderlich delivered his sermon, based upon the word in St. John's gospel 11:28-29.
May her body rest in peace till the great day of resurrection and may her soul stay forever with our Lord Jesus Christ.
