Reverend Ronald W. Goetsch, 87, Kyes St, Merrill, died on Sunday April 3, 1994 at North Memorial Medical Center, Robbinsdale, MN.

He was born on February 10, 1907 in the Town of Maine to Robert and Wilhelmine Hackbart Goetsch. He married the former Lillie Radtke on June 28, 1934 at Zion Lutheran Church in the Town of Maine.

He received his elementary education in the rural public schools and graduated from Concordia College, Milwaukee, in 1928, whereupon he entered Concordia Seminary, St. Louis, MO, from which he graduated in June of 1933. From 1930 to 1932 he served a vicarage at Trinity Lutheran Church, Cape Girardeau, MO.

He served congregations in Big Falls, in the Town of Corning at Merrill, Osseo, New Richmond, Amherst, and as Chaplain in the Wisconsin Veteran's Home at King. He also served as Lutheran Chaplain in St. Joseph's Hospital in Marshfield from 1965 until his retirement in 1973.

Pastor Goetsch served in many official capacities in the North Wisconsin District of the Lutheran Church - Missouri Synodl including offices of vice-president; secretary; circut counselor in various cities, on numerous boards and committees including the Board for Young People's Work; was co-founder of Camp Luther, Three Lakes. He also served as archivist of the North Wisconsin District for 50 1/2 years. He is also the author of a book "Power Through Prayer" and numerous articles for Lutheran periodicals and publications. In Synod he served as chairman of the Conference on Archives & History and was a life member of the Concordia Historical Institute.

Survivors besides his wife Lillie are two sons Ronald (Jean) Goetsch of Brooklyn Park, MN and William P. (Jurnell) Goetsch of Cornell; six grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; two brothers Winfried (Leona) Goetsch of Wausau and Robert (Dorothy) Goetsch of New Port Richey, Florida. He was preceded in death by a son Harold Goetsch at the age of 10 in 1951 and by his parents, four brothers and one sister.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 pm Wednesday, April 6, 1994 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Merrill. The Rev. Alden Beversdorf and the Rev Robert Brandt will officiate. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, Town of Maine, near the place of his birth. Visitation will be from 4 pm to 8 pm today at Waid Funeral home, (new location) 301 Eagle Drive, Merrill, and again from 11 am Wednesday until time of services at the church.
