Born to parents Joseph McGurk and Ruth Williams he married Roberta E. Miller and had the following children: Ruth Ann,and John Robert.A graduate of Berwick High School he went on to North Carolina State College and Lycoming College and was a 1951 graduate of the Palmer School of Chiropractic. He went on to serve in the Army Air Corps during World War II. Although he had a practice for a brief time in Mifflintown he went on to found the Snyder County Chiropractic Center, Selinsgrove. He sold the practice in 1989 but continued working till retirement in 1998. He was a member of the Grouse Club, Sunbury Elks, Loyal order of the Moose 1173,Selinsgrove, Sellinsgrove American Legion, Sunbury Social Club, Dauntlass Hook and Ladder Fire Co., Shamokin Dam Fire Co and Hummels Warf Fire Co. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and boating and in his early years golf.
