Catherine Meysenburg was born in Sandweiler, Luxemburg, March 15, 1836. She
passed away at the home of her son, M. S. Medinger, in David City Nebraska,
October 12, 1921. She was united in marriage to Peter Medinger, March 2, 1865,
in her native land and six years later in the spring of 1871 came to America and
to Butler County, Nebraska, with her husband, where they settled on homestead in
Bone Creek township, where she resided for thirty-seven years. Her husband
preceded her in death six years, having died April 26, 1916. Mrs. Medinger was
85 years, 6 months and 27 days old at the time of her death. The last 28 years
of her life had been spent at the home of her son, M. E. Medinger she, with her
husband moving to David City with them in 1908. She was the mother of four
children. Mrs. John Dehner, Octavia, Nebraska; Nick Medinger, Centralia,
Oklahoma; Mrs. John Steiner, Clear Lake, Minnesota and M. E. Medinger of David
City. Besides the our children she leaves seventeen grand children and eight
great grand children and one, brother, M. M. Meysenburg, to mourn her death Mrs.
Medinger was a devout member of the Catholic faith and the funeral services were
held from St Mary's church, Friday morning a 9:30 o'clock, October 14, 1921. Rev
Father Sproll assisted by Father Mock and Father O'Sullivan, conducted the
services. The pall bearers were Peter Dehner, Michael S. Dehner, Nicholas
Meysenburg, Fred Meysenburg, Emil Medinger and Frank Medinger. For the past
five years Mrs. Medinger had been practically helpless, not being able to walk
or even feed herself; but during all that time she was patient and,
characteristic of her whole life, looked on the bright side. She could always
see the silver lining in the cloud of despair. She was a beautiful character, a
loving wife and mother and loved by all who knew her. When able, she never
missed church services and even after she could not walk, her son or
daughter-in-law wheeled her to divine services, which always seemed to make her
so happy. The remains were laid by those of her husband in the Luxemburg
cemetery on the valley. Those present from away were Mrs. Nick Medinger,
Centralia, Okla., John Steiner, Clear Lake, Minnesota and Nick Medinger a
nephew from Cedar Rapids, Nebraska. In their home where mother has spent so
many years, it will be lonesome without her, yet, not one of them would call her
back, could they have the power. She had lived her life and the creator has
called her home to her reward.
