Madeline Holland Barnhart, 100, of Roanoke, VA, died Saturday May 26, 2012. Born in Franklin County, VA on February 27, 1912, she was the daughter of the late James Henry Holland and Nena Dudley Holland. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Josephus (Joe) Barnhart; three brothers, Adophus Holland, Brevard Holland and Odell Holland; and two sisters, Uldean Barnhart and Myrtle Taylor. She is survived by two daughters and a son and their spouses, Sandra and James Keeler, Moneta, VA, Gale and Frank Hancock, Roanoke, VA; Dr. Glenn and Treva Barnhart, Seattle, WA; eleven grandchildren, Mark Keeler and wife, Tina, Tracy Budd and husband, Pat, Steven Keeler and wife, Lisa, Gregory Keeler and wife, Anne, Diane McDaniel and husband, Michael, Kathryn Martin and husband, John, Dr. Buckley Gillock and wife, Virginia, Daniel Barnhart, Matthew Barnhart and wife, Lauren, Jessica Barnhart and Ginny Barnhart; seventeen great grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren. Also surviving is one sister, Lavonne Webb, Roanoke, VA and many nieces and nephews. Madeline was soft-spoken, hard working and loved her family. She and her husband, Joe, spent many hours, oftentimes on vacations and holidays, visiting and helping their children and grandchildren and were always available for their needs. She and Joe also enjoyed their many winter vacations in Florida. The tireless time spent in their garden was a wonderful gift to all those around them. Madeline especially loved flowers and provided and arranged them for many years for her garden club and for her church, Ninth Street Church of the Brethren, Roanoke, VA, where she and Joe were members. Her many talents also included being an extraordinary cook and a skilled seamstress.
