She passed into the arms of Jesus at the Ely-Bloomenson Community Hospital after a long, courageous battle with cancer.
She was born Ione Lila Moen February 6, 1928, in Stanley, Wisconsin to Otto and Alma (Johnson) Moen.
On September 7, 1950, she married Norman Kainz in Ely. After Norman was discharged from the Army, they made their home in Sawbill Landing prior to moving to Ely permanently.
Babe is survived by her husband of 61 years, Norman; two sons, Andy (Louise) and Kristofer; daughter, Kathy Stone; one granddaughter, Welsa Stone; her sister, Idene (Don) Krings; sister-in-law, Anetta Moen; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, "Skipper" Kainz; her brother, Alfred Moen; and her son, Keith, on September 27, 1970.
Babe had numerous occupations during her lifetime, some of which included being a certified lumber grader at Kainz Sawmill and co-owner with her husband of Babe's Bait. Babe enjoyed traveling, gardening and raising her family. She was a member of Praise Fellowship Church. Through the many radiation and chemotherapy treatments she endured starting in 2004, Babe always maintained a sense of humor, great courage and a solid faith in God.
