CPL. JAMES B. GROGG, JR., 23, son of Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Grogg, was killed in action on Iwo Jima on March 7, according to word received last Wednesday by his parents. Cpl. Grogg was born in Big Bend, West Virginia on February 16, 1922, and came to Gladwin with his parents in 1937. He graduated from Gladwin high school in 1942, joining the Marine Corps parachute troops in December of the same year, and went overseas in June, 1943. In February 1944, he returned for a course of training in the automatic riflemen's corps, and was again sent overseas the following June. Surviving are his parents; two brothers, Y3/c Harold C. Grogg, of San Clemente Island, San Diego, California and Herbert at home; two sisters, Mrs Virginia Grossenbacher, of Akron, Ohio and Claudia at home. Gladwin County Record 4/4/1945

All veterans and Blue Star Mothers are asked by Commander Archie Fritz, to meet at the Community Building at 10:00 a. m. and march in a body to the church. Gladwin County Record 4/18/1945
