John born on the Oppold Farm just South of Sioux Falls, SD.
He traveled by horse and wagon to Ackley Iowa, established first home and farm and had 7 children with wife Sophia Mary Lamm.
1907 moved to South Dakota near Tea and the wide open plains of South Dakota. It was virgin prairie with no fences or roads, lots of black soil. They raised hereford Cattle and horses. John was very fond of horses and raised many. They used them to farm the several hundred acres.
He was also an inventor and fixer. In later years, he fixed family clocks and toys.
When he passed away, they had 9 children, 39 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren.
