Menga Gfeller was born April 23,1857 near Soux City,Soux County,Wisconsin. While yet a child she moved with her parents to a farm in Iowa were she grew to womanhood.On July 9,1874 she was married to Adolph Gfeller.A few days after the wedding she,and her husband moved by wagon to a homestead two and a half southwest of Alida, KS.(Geary County)to this union,six boys and five girls were born.It was during the grasshopper year that Mrs.Gfeller,as a young bride,came to this community.She faced many hardships on these bleak plains in the earlier days when only a few homesteaders cabins dotted the area. Mrs.Gfeller was baptized into the Alida Evangelical Church and remained a faithfully member till her death December 10,1928 at the age of 71 years,7 months and 16 days.
