Mathilda Holzwarth was born home on Wednesday, February 5, 1908, 320 East 81st Street, New York, New York, and delivered by midwife, Mrs. K. Meyer of 1541 First Avenue, New York, New York.

She was the daughter of German immigrants Heinrich and Louisa Richter-Holzwarth. Her father was 40 when she was born and her mother was 39. Although she grew up in America, Mathilda learned to speak German and spoke it her entire life.

Mathilda was married three times and had two sons and five daughters.

Her first marriage was to William Alphonse Buckingham in New York, New York on Wednesday, April 9, 1924. Together they had one daughter Louise Olga Buckingham.

By June 1, 1925, Mathilda married her second husband, Arthur Kienzle, a gas station attendant. Together they had three daughters in New York, Dorothy Margaret Kienzle, Barbara Ruth Kienzle and Mathilda Eleanor Kienzle.

Twenty-five years after marrying her first husband, on Saturday, April 9, 1949 in Solano County, California, Mathilda married Jean Joseph August Wenger, a merchant marine. Together they had three children born in California, two sons John Joseph Wenger, Raymond August Wenger and a daughter, Elizabeth,

Mathilda died on Thursday, December 4, 1969, in Montefiore Hospital, Bronx, New York, at the age of 61 from complications caused from mucus buildup in a trachea tube inserted after an operation for cancer of the trachea.

She was predeceased by her second husband Arthur Herman Kienzle who died in 1956.

Surviving Mathilda were her husband August Wenger, her beloved children and grandchildren.

She was buried on Monday, December 8, 1969 in Mount Hope Cemetery, Hastings-on-Hudson, New York.

When her son John Joseph Wenger died after sustaining injuries in a fight, he was buried with Mathilda. The man who beat John into a coma, stood trial and was convicted for his murder.
