Johann Georg “John” Hoelzer was born November 14, 1899, on the family farm in Wyoming Township in Lee County, Illinois to Christina née Zimmermann and Johannes “John” Hoelzer, Sr. He was the eldest of their eight children. John was baptized at Immanuel Lutheran Church in rural Brooklyn Township in Lee County, Illinois, on December 3, 1899. On July 2, 1925, he was married to Wilhelmina “Minnie” Kaufmann at Immanuel Lutheran Church. Minnie and John would raise their 4 children (Stanley, Evelyn, Eunice, and Bernice) on their farm in rural Wyoming Township in Lee County, Illinois. John was a lifelong member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, a farmer and a director of the Paw Paw Co-Operative Elevator Association. On Tuesday, October 31, 1961, John passed away at age 61, at Mendota Community in Mendota, Illinois. Funeral services were held Friday, November 3rd at Immanuel Lutheran Church with burial in the church cemetery. He was survived by his widow, Minnie, his 4 children and 9 grandchildren. He was also survived by his 3 sisters, Ella, Anna, and Laura, and 3 brothers Edward, Wilbur, and Harold. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Christian.
