Otto J. Schmidt was born August 16, 1907 in rural Bennington, Nebraska. He farmed in Douglas County until 1945 and then farmed in Washington County from 1945-1973 when he retired and moved into Arlington.
He was a member of the Arlington Community Church at Arlington.
He married Marie Petersen February 24, 1932 at Omaha.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Marie Meyer Schmidt; brothers, John and Dietrich; sisters, Anna and Martha and a great-grandson, Eric Lang.
He is survived by his wife, Marie; two sons, Laverne Schmidt and Melvin Schmidt, both of Arlington; a daughter, Eleanor Sullivan of Boca Raton, Florida; a brother, Arnold Schmidt of Bennington; 11 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Todd Schmidt, Tyler Schmidt, Tim Schmidt, Craig Schmidt, Leland Schmidt and Mike Sullivan.
Honorary Pallbearers were Greg Lang, Terry O'Neill and Pat Hilden.
Ruby House was organist. Melvin Misfeldt was soloist.
