BIESTER, CLARA A.—Clara A. (Jansen) Biester was born to Henry and Mary (Becker) Jansen on June 19, 1914, north of Exeter. She passed away Sept. 21, 1996, at the Fillmore County Hospital in Geneva at the age of 82 years, 3 months and 2 days.

Clara attended parochial school at Exeter. After the eighth grade, she attended and graduated from Exeter High School in 1933. At age 13, her mother passed away, leaving her to take care of her father and brothers. After graduation, Clara worked as a hired girl in the area.

On Sept. 18, 1936, Clara and Alvin C. Biester were married in York. They started their married life in Geneva, living with Christie and Emma Biester on the farm. They then moved to a farm by Clay Center for a short time.

Clara and Alvin then returned to Fillmore county and lived a mile west of the Biester homestead. They lived here until 1954, when they moved to the original Biester farm. In 1979, they built a new home in Geneva and moved to town.

Clara was a very loving wife, mother, grandmother and wonderful great-grandmother. She was a true friend to anyone and never met a stranger.

She enjoyed her garden and flowers and could always be found crocheting, sewing, or doing some form of handiwork.

She made all of her daughter’s wedding dresses and some for friend’s children too. Each one of her grandchildren has an afghan crocheted by Grandma Clara.

Clara was a member of the Junior Geneva Township Club, and the Grace Lutheran Ladies Aid and enjoyed attending until failing health prevented it. She enjoyed bowling, dancing, playing cards, traveling and all kinds of sports.
You could usually find Clara and Alvin at most of their children’s, grandchildren’s and even great-grandchildren’s sporting events.

Clara and Alvin enjoyed traveling. They have visited many countries and have made many friends of the road. After moving to town, she enjoyed having coffee with the neighbor ladies. Clara was a wonderful mother and devoted spouse whose family was her life.

Clara was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Mary Jansen; brother, Joe Jansen; brothers and sisters-in-law, Henry and Rose Jansen and Ralph and Ardis Jansen; and five brothers in their young years.

She is survived by her husband, Alvin; daughters, Sharon (Leon) Wiese, Anita (Larry) Williams, Jo Ann (Thomas) Chapman, Patricia (David) Bingley; son Larry (Maradeth) Biester; grandchildren, Jeff(Kerrie) Wiese, Julie Wiese, Susan (Rick) Pickel, Sheri (Andy) Tewes, Michele (Rick) Reinsch, Lorrie Biester, Todd (Chantel) Biester, Christa, Mike and Jenna Chapman and Danielle and Kristen Bingley; great-grandchildren, Jake and Carly Pickel, Alexandria and Matthew Tewes, Mannie Reinsch, Matthew and Paris Yank and Michael and Caressa Biester, and Madeline, Chloe, and Christian Biester; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were conducted from the Grace Lutheran Church in Geneva at 2 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 24 with Pastor Darren Green officiating.

Cheri Domeier accompanied Naomi Green who sang “Amazing Grace” and “Nearer My God to Thee”. The congregational hymn was “Rock of Ages.”
