Charles Orson Carmer was born in Seluda, Ill., Aug. 6th, 1856, and passed away at his home at Carnforth, Iowa, March 6th, 1928, at the age of 71 years and 7 mo after a brief illness of pneumonia.
He was united in marriage to Miss Mary Sheline, Dec. 19th, 1895. To this union was born seven children, three of whom preceded him in death. He leaves to mourn his loss his wife and four children, Mr. Vinton Carmer and Mrs. Laura Ballard of Grinnell and Samuel and Ralph who are still at home with their mother. Also three children by a previous marriage, one son who passed away at infancy, and two daughters, Mrs. Hazel Hammel of Ames, Iowa, and Mrs. Margery Borrer of Iowa Falls, Iowa. He also leaves nine grandchildren, one sister, Mrs. Florence Jones, Chula Vista, California; one step brother, Fred W. Kinney of Galesburg, Ill., and two step sisters, Mrs. Mayme Pratt and Mrs. Maude Miller, both of Monmouth, Ill., and a host of other relatives and friends. In Aug. 1903, he with his family moved from Garden Grove, Iowa, to Grinell where they made their home until a year ago when they moved to Carnforth, Ia., where they now reside. While in Grinnell, he joined the Friends church of which he was a member at the time of his death.
