Phillip Schaefer Chilton Times June 9, 1923

Phillip Schaefer a resident of the town of Stockbridge for the past thirty-eight years, died at his home Monday morning at the age of 72 years and 22 days.

Phillip Schaefer, son the late William and Catherine Schaefer was born at Hessen, Darmstadt, Germany, May 12, 1851. In 1853 he immigrated with his parents to America, they coming direct to the town of Calumet, Fond du Lac County and engaged in farming. He remained at home and assisted in the work until he attained his majority when he learned the wagon making and carpenter trades which he followed until 1882.

On June 2, 1882, he was united in marriage to Miss Maria Goos, at New Holstein and they located on a farm near Jericho in the town of Brothertown where they resided one year and then moved onto a farm in the town of New Holstein. In 1885 they moved onto a farm in the town of Stockbridge and the following year purchased the Thomas Winter farm on the Bennett Road which was his home when death claimed him. On July 1, 1919 his wife died.

Mr. Schaefer was a hard working industrious farmer and attending strictly to his own affairs until illness prevented. Last fall his health began to fail from an attack of diabetes and some three weeks previous to his death he entered the Lynch sanitarium at West Bend. His condition not improving his family was advised and his children brought him home on Sunday last where he passed away as above stated.

In his death the family loses a kind and loving father and the community a good neighbor and friend and an upright citizen. The funeral was held on Wednesday afternoon from the home, Rev. W. A. Arpke officiating with interment in the family lot in the Breed cemetery.

He is survived by four sons and two daughters, Charles of Plymouth, Frank of Appleton, Edgar and Royal at home and two daughters, Mrs. Wm. Schultz of New Holstein and Mrs. John Vogel of Chilton, all of whom were in attendance. He is also survived by a brother, W. F. Schaefer of this city and six grandchildren.
