Manilda A. (Lala) Serwe, age 96, of 1418 S. 14th St. Manitowoc, died Sunday
morning October 10, 1999, at Holy Family Memorial Medical Center.
Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, October 14, 1999, at First
German Ev. Lutheran Church. Officiating will be Rev. Joel Otto with burial to
follow at Evergreen Cemetery, Manitowoc.
She was born January 2, 1903, in Bonduel, Wis., daughter of the late William
and Amalia Busch Marquardt. She married Joseph A. Serwe on June 21, 1923, at
Zachow, Wis. He preceded her in death in 1966. She worked for many years at
Mirro Aluminum Co. and after her retirement was a volunteer for Holy Family
Hospital. Lala enjoyed the outdoors and spending time with her nieces and
nephews.
Survivors include two special nieces, Pat (Walter) Sievert, Manitowoc, and their
children, Mike (Michelle) Sievert, New Mexico, Tim (Patty) Sievert, Kenosha, Greg
(Mary) Sievert, Manitowoc, Sue (Craig) Schafer, Wausau, and Dianne Kiel and her
children, Luke, Brooke, and Noah Kiel, all of Manitowoc; four special nephews,
Orville and Oliver Marquardt, Manitowoc, Orman and John Marquardt, Alaska; one
sister-in-law, Esther Serwe, Shawano; one brother-in-law, Alvin Herschlope,
Shawano; cousins, other relatives and friends also survive. Besides her parents
and her husband, Joseph, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Erdman
Marquardt, Adolph Marquardt, Leo Marquardt; a sister, Viola Schwalbe; two nephews,
Rene Schwalbe, Syril Serwe; one niece, Leonice Marquardt.
Relatives and friends may call from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday (TONIGHT) at the Jens Family
Funeral Home, Manitowoc, and at the church on Thursday from 10 a.m. until the time
of service at 11 a.m.
