Martha A. Karges, 85, 5293 Colwell Road, Convoy, died at 1:06 p.m. Dec. 31, 2003, at Convoy Care Center, Convoy.
She was born June 16, 1918, in Hamilton County, Ind., to Rollie and Elizabeth Wilson Leeman. On June 20, 1945, she married Dale Thomas Matthews who died March 4, 1983. She later married Willis E. Karges who survives.
Also surviving are a daughter, Virginia E. (Dennis) Hammons, Middle Point; four stepsons, Richard (Marie) Matthews, Madison, Wis., Paul (Paula) Karges, Kalkaska, Mich., Wayne (Kathy) Karges, Convoy, and Edward (Claudia) Karges, Van Wert; three stepdaughters, Betty (Martin) Krick, Celina, Susan (Linn) Ealing, Bluffton, Ind., and Ruby (Brian) VanderArk, Caledonia, Mich.; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Other survivors include a brother, the Rev. Rollie (Janelle) Leeman, Ulm, Minn.; and two sisters, Ruth (Roger) Stickle, Indianapolis, Ind., and Gertie (Tom) Cox, Atlanta, Ind.
Two stepsons, Robert A. and Paul G. Matthews, are deceased.
She was a retired teacher and former librarian at Marsh Foundation School, Van Wert. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Van Wert, where she had been a Sunday School teacher and Mission Board member. She was a graduate of Taylor University, Upland, Ind.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the church, the Rev. Tim Burden officiating. Burial will follow at the I.O.O.F. Cemetery, Convoy.
Calling is 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. today at Cowan & Son Funeral Home, Van Wert, and after 9:30 a.m. Saturday at the church.
