Memorial Services were held at 11 a.m. on Jan. 29 at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Cherokee. Rev. Armand Bertrand officiated. Burial will be in the Mount Calvary Cemetery in Cherokee at a later date.
Mary was born on Dec. 1, 1933 in Sutherland to Henry and Anna (Horstmann) Schoening. She attended school in Primghar and graduating in 1952. Mary then went on to attend the St. Joseph School of Nursing from 1952-1955, where she received her Registered Nurse's degree. On Jan. 14, 1957 she married John Sauer at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Cherokee. Mary worked part-time as an R.N. at the Sioux Valley Memorial Hospital in Cherokee for 40 years.
She was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers, Merlyn, Mike and his wife Dorothy, Glenn and his wife Maxine, Orville and his wife Florence; one sister LaVonne Cochran and her husband Dale.
She is survived by her husband, John; two daughters, Nancy Sauer of Eden Praire, Minnesota; Joanie Maszk and her husband, Mark, of Omaha, Neb.; two sons, Tom Sauer of Omaha, Neb.; Bill Sauer of Omaha, Neb.; one granddaughter, Caley Mae Maszk of Omaha, Neb.; one brother, Kenneth Schoening of Kingman, Ariz.; one sister-in-law, Rita Selk of Kingman, Ariz.; many nieces and nephews; a special friend Bruce Oentrich.

CHEROKEE, Iowa -- Mary Ann Sauer, 74, of Cherokee passed away Saturday, Jan. 26, 2008, at Cherokee Regional Medical Center following a lengthy illness.
Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Cherokee. Burial will be at a later date in Mount Calvary Cemetery at Cherokee. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Greenwood Funeral Home Cherokee.
