At age 90 years 6 months and 8 days, Peter died of pneumonia. He was born in Hersbruck, Bavaria, Germany, the son of Johann George Prager and Elizabeth Wildt, and immigrated on the "Emerald" to Philadelphia. Leaving the family farm in O'Hara Township, he adapted to the life of a small town after marrying Maria Elizabeth Tschudy of Sharpsburg. He first worked as a cashier in the Sharpsburg and Etna bank and later became the director of the bank. He expanded into real estate and owned a hardware store. Two of his sons were killed by a falling tree at Ross Grove during the storm of July 4, 1878, and a daughter married into the Heinz family. She died after giving birth to a son. Daughter Louisa committed suicide. His family was buried in a prime location on a hill in Greenwood, and he moved his parents and sons from the graveyard of the Sharpsburg Lutheran Church in 1903. In his later years, he entrusted the hardware store to his sons and gave his daughter Carrie details of his family's history. Peter's death came at #624 Clay Street 2 years after the passing of his wife. Funeral services by Holzheimer & Bock of Sharpsburg.
