Gary Hughes, Johnson county sheriff, said Peeks drowned when he fell out of a small sail boat about 4:30 p.m. Sunday near the north shore of Lake McBride. The body was recovered about 7:45 p.m. Sunday.
Authorities said Peeks was sailing on the lake with a female companion when he apparently fell out of the craft. Two boats from the Solon fire department conducted dragging operations. The drowning was the first on Lake McBride since 1967, said Hughes.
A life resident of Wilton, Peeks was born Sept. 2, 1949, in Iowa. His parents were Norman F. and Maurine Wacker Peeks. He was a student at Northeast Missouri State University at Kirksville and was a member of the Tri-County Playcasters.
