Helga Baumgarten, 73, Minot, died on Monday, March 3, 2008, in her home.

Helga Roehl was born August 15, 1934, in Bad Düben, Germany, the daughter of Otto and Martha (Naumann) Roehl. She was raised and educated through trade school in Bad Düben.

Helga married Otto Baumgarten on April 29, 1953, in Bad Düben, Germany. They emigrated to the Unites States on June 30, 1956, arriving in Minot on July 29, 1956. Helga gained employment with Ellison's Department Store, working as a sales clerk for a number of years. In 1975, she became owner/operator of the Cloth Haus, located on Main Street in Minot. Helga, alongside her husband, operated the fabric store for 25 years until her retirement on April 1, 2000.

Helga enjoyed using the computer, selling merchandise, and traveling. She was a member of the Minot Elks.

Her loving family includes: husband of fifty-four years: Otto; Children: Gregory (Carla Evenson) Baumgarten, Minot and Jason (Shanna) Baumgarten, Tacoma, WA; Sister: Anna Roehl, Hamburg, Germany; Brother: Otto (Erica) Roehl, Hamburg, Germany and Grandchildren: Zachary, Brandon, and Tyler Baumgarten.

Helga was preceded in death by her parents, twin sons, Bruce and Curtis, and sister, Gertrude Roehl.

Funeral: At Helga's request, she gifted her remains to the University of North Dakota Medical School.
Visitation: There will be no reviewal; however, friends and family are invited to sign a memorial register book on Friday, March 7, 2008, from noon until 5:00 p.m. at the Thomas Family Funeral Home of Minot.
Memorials: Memorials are preferred to the donor's choice.
