Funeral Mass for Bruce Burghardt, age 66, of Watertown, SD will be at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, July 6, 2007 in the Holy Name Catholic Church, Watertown. Father John Lantsberger will officiate. Bruce passed away on July 1, 2007 at a hospital in Watertown.

Burial will be in the St. Mary's Cemetery, Watertown, SD. Honorary pallbearers will be all of his many friends and the Class of 1958. Active pallbearers will be: Jim Dehnert, Steve Horning, Bob Lantgen, Dennis "Bambi" DeVille, Bob Graf, Don Smith, Chuck Krause, Larry Longstreet, and Rick Berg. Music will be provided by Donna Williams, organist and Brad Drake, song leader.

Memorials may be directed to Ducks Unlimited and the Arrow Education Foundation.

Visitation will be in the Holy Name Catholic Church, Watertown, SD on Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. with a Scripture Wake Service at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue on Friday preceding services at the church. The family is requested to meet at the church on Friday by 9:30 to attend services.

Bruce was born on August 11, 1940 at Watertown, SD to Stanley and Clara (Falk) Burghardt. He attended and graduated from Watertown High School in 1958. Following graduation, he attended St. Thomas University and the University of South Dakota.

Bruce married Sharon Bridge at Watertown, SD on September 28, 1962. He worked with his father at Burghardt Supply, purchasing the business in 1970. He managed the Watertown Municipal Golf Course from 1989 to 2007. Bruce most recently owned the Player's Casino in Watertown.

Bruce was a member of Holy Name Catholic Church, the Elks, Duck's Unlimited, and Krause Brothers Hunting Club. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing, and music; especially the oldies. He also enjoyed traveling and reminiscing with his friends. He was very proud of his 11 grandchildren.

Bruce is survived by four sons: Jeff and his wife, Jackie Burghardt, of Watertown, SD, John Burghardt of Sioux Falls, SD, Joe and his wife, Lisa Burghardt, and Jason and his wife, Kari Burghardt, all of Watertown, SD; one daughter, Jennifer and her husband, Bruce Rieffenberger, of Watertown, SD; his mother, Clara Burghardt, of Watertown, SD; one sister, Ellen Tomaszewski of Watertown, SD; and eleven grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Sharon, his father, and one brother.
