Survivors are one step-son, John Chapman, Toronto; two step-daughters, Mrs. Fred (Ida). D'Aoust of Billings Bridge, Ont., and Mrs. Donat (Alda Petrie, Windsor; one sister, Mrs. Susan Backes, Ottawa, and several nieces and nephews.
He was born on May 1, 1887 in Huldange, Luxemburg, the son of Michael and Elizabeth Krier Backes. He attended schools there and married Hilda Lecuyer on Sept. 4, 1934 in Ottawa. She died Nov. 22, 1954. He came to the United
States in 1923 and was employed aft Alcoa in the remelt department for many years.
He was a communicant of St. Patrick's Church, Brasher Falls, and a fourth degree member of the Massena Knights of Columbus.
Interment was made in St. Patrick cemetery in Brasher Falls.
