Emmanuel was born May 28, 1926, to Henry and Bergetta (Klein) Harsche. He was born on the homestead south of Shields. He was educated at the Udell Country School southwest of Shields. Emmanuel joined the Army in 1945, and was stationed in Fort Leonardwood and served time in Germany. Emmanuel was very proud to have served his country.

In 1949 he married Wanda Tegge from McIntosh, S.D. They were married at St. James Catholic Church at Porcupine, east of Shields. They lived on the family farm and eventually bought a farm of their own, three miles south of Shields. Emmanuel raised Hereford cattle and milked cows.

Emmanuel was a jack-of-all-trades. He worked at Yeagen Dairy, a gas station in Mandan and helped build elevators throughout the state of North Dakota.

Emmanuel drove a school bus for the Flasher Public School District for many years. He was also a deputy sheriff for Grant County, serving under Reno Gradi from Carson.

Emmanuel loved to ride horses, play cards, play the harmonica and spend time with his family and friends.

His pride and joy was his horse "Brandy," and supplying his grandchildren with Tootsie Rolls and gum.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Bergetta Harsche; two sisters, Anna Harsche and Barbara Gower; one brother, Anton Harsche; and two grandsons, Lee and Matthew Harsche.
