Carus I. Roed, 95, of Park Rapids, died Wednesday, Aug. 29, 2012 at Heritage Living Center in Park Rapids.

Carus Irvin Roed was born on May 6, 1917 to Thorvald and Nettie (Smith) Roed in Williston, N.D. and raised in rural Fertile. He attended school in rural Fertile and joined the U.S. Marines.

On June 25, 1939 he married Melva J. Johnson at Rodnes Church in Polk County. He worked in Detroit, Mich. and in 1953 returned to Fertile/Erskine and then to Grand Forks, N.D. where he lived until 1997. Then they moved to Park Rapids where they lived since.

Carus was a carpenter his entire working career. He enjoyed golf, baseball, camping, hunting, gardening and fishing. He was a loyal and devoted family man and a church worker.

He belonged to Riverside United Methodist Church and the Star of the North Marine Corps League.

He is survived by his wife Melva of 73 years of Park Rapids; sons, Delton (Caroline) Roed of New Hope, Keith (Kathy) Roed of Queen Creek, Ariz.; grandchildren, Mathew Roed, Christine Roed, Steven Kissner, Jason Rose, Michelle Whalen, Bradley Rose, Nettie Roed and Keatin Rode; nine great-grandchildren; and his brother Lowell Roed of California.

He was preceded in death by his parents Thorvald and Nettie Roed; brothers, Loris Roed, Everett Roed, Carus Roed; sisters, Ethlyn Mullen, Helen Wisby, Muriel Wisby; two daughters, Darlene Rose and Sharon Kissner.

Funeral service: 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 8 at Riverside United Methodist Church in Park Rapids. Pastor Lee Kantonen will be the officiant.

Interment: will be at Resurrection Cemetery in East Grand Forks Monday, Sept. 10, 2012.
