Walter Bryant, Jr. was born February 7, 1934 in Tallahassee, Florida to the late Walter and Iola Bryant. The eldest of four children, he was preceded in death by his beloved sister, Barbara Bryant Reese; stepsister, Smithie Evans; stepbrother, Samuel L. Bryant; and his chocolate Labrador Retriever, Brando. Walter departed this life to start his new life with God on October 5, 2012.

At an early age, Walter accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior and became a member of the Church of God of Prophecy in Tallahassee, Florida. Walter attended the public schools in Tallahassee where he graduated from Lincoln High School. He received two Bachelor of Science degrees from Florida A&M University in Animal Husbandry and Sociology.

He served his country and received an Honorable Discharge from the United States Army. He was an active lifetime member of the 369th Veteran's Association where he continued his call for service to his community and mankind.

After graduating from college, Walter moved from Tallahassee to New York and became a very active member of Vernon Heights Congregational Church. While in New York, Walter met and married the love of his life, Della Gilbert. Their union lasted forty-plus years and he and Della had one son, Lateef Rashad Bryant.

Walter had a rich and fulfilling professional career. He was a caseworker with the New York City Department of Social Services. He was also employed at the Spofford Youth Center, where he mentored delinquent youth. Later, he was appointed as the Chief Executive Officer of the Red Hook Clinic, an outpatient facility of the Long Island College Hospital in Brooklyn, New York. Walter remained CEO of the clinic until his retirement in 2003.

After much thought and consideration, Walter and Della moved to Atlanta, Georgia to enjoy warmer weather in their retirement. Walter became a member of the First Congregational Church (UCC), where he served as a member of the Men's Fellowship, the Diaconate Board and Usher Board. He was actively involved in many aspects of the church until his unexpected death.

Although, he was the recipient of numerous honors and awards, Walter's greatest satisfaction came from God allowing him to be a catalyst for change and making a difference in the lives of others. Walter's true passion and calling in life was working with the youth of his community. He was truly a humanitarian, helping and giving to others with is time, service, and resources. He volunteered many hours coaching Little League Baseball, using skills he gained from playing on the Florida A&M's baseball team. He coached Pop Warner Football in Mount Vernon, New York and spent countless hours, far exceeding those required by his occupation counseling troubled youth.

Walter was a devoted husband and father and an avid sports fan. Some of his most enjoyable moments included traveling around the country in support of his son, who played for the Howard University Bison Football Team from 1992-1996. As the family patriarch, Walter found great joy and fulfillment in demonstrating his love for God, family and friends.

The surviving family members left behind to proudly remember Walter's stellar contributions and to treasure his loving memories are his supportive and devoted wife, Della Gilbert Bryant; son, Lateef Rashad Bryant (Robin), Tallahassee, Florida; sisters: Marvia Bryant Simmons (Harold), Fort Lauderdale, Florida and Vera Bryant Haugabrook (Eddie), Tallahassee, Florida; one granddaughter, Nailah Dunn, Tallahassee, Florida.
