BIRTH AND MARRIAGE - Ole was born in 1821 on the Moen farm in Bagn, Sor (South) Aurdal, Valdres, Oppland, Norway. He was a son of Eivind Hansen Garthus Moen (AKA Even Hansen) and Anne Olsdatter Garthus. In 1846 Ole married Berit Viken, a daughter of Ivar Olsen Li Rustebakke Vika and Marit Hansdatter Grimsrudeie. Evenson was spelled Evensen in some records.

IMMIGRATION - Ole and Berit, along with Berit's sister Thora and her husband Arne Mikkelsen (later Mickelson), signed out of the Bagn church in May 1851. At the time, both families were living on the Torebrothaugen farm (from Norway Digital Archives)

BERTHEA AND THORA WERE SISTERS

SETTLING IN WISCONSIN - Ole and Betsey had two surviving children, daughter Marit 'Mary' and son Even Olson. In 1855 Ole patented land in Vermont township and farmed until he retired. After he quit farming he lived with his son-in-law and daughter Andrew and Mary Erickson. Andrew took over his father-in-law's farm. Ole was a founder of Vermont Lutheran Church and served as its treasurer. He was a veteran of the U.S. Civil War.

"Ole and Hans Evenson Haga, or Olmshuseiet, brothers, emigrated 1851 at the same time as Arne Mickelson Gladhaug and his wife, Thora Viken. Ole Evenson married Thora Viken's sister, Johannah ( my note: wrong name, should be Betsy, AKA Berthea or Bertha - jst), and they had two children, Marit and Even Olson. Marit married Andrew Erickson (mentioned in last paragraph). Marit's brother, Even, married the widow of Ole Olson Espelien. Their children were Martin and Mary Olson. Evan and his second wife had two sons, Banford and Edwin Olson."

CHILDREN - Ole was married to Betsy for 53 years.
Their son Even (or Evan) married widow named Johanna (Peterson) Olson in 1902. She had been married to Ole Olson Espelien until he died in 1897.
Their daughter Mary married Andrew Erickson in 1872.

SIBLINGS - Ole's older brother Hans Evenson, b. 1815 Norway, immigrated to Blue Mounds, Dane Co., Wisconsin in 1856. He married Inger Sorum. They had eight surviving children. In 1870 the Hans and Inger Evenson family was living in Vermont, Dane Co., Wisconsin. In 1880 the family was living in Ridgeway, Iowa Co., Wisconsin.
Five of their eight children moved to Minnesota. Their sons, HANS and SAM, moved to Pope Co., Minnesota. Their daughter ANNE married Andrew Hanson and moved to McLeod Co., Minnesota. Their daughter GUNHILD married Jonas Burtman and moved to McLeod Co., Minnesota. Their daughter THORA 'Dora' married Juel Disrud and moved to Waseca Co., Minnesota. Inger, Christine and Kari married, had children and died in Dane County, Wisconsin. INGER married Andrew Anderson. CHRISTINE married Knut Knutson Lunde. Their surname became Lunde. KARI married Ole Olson Klubberud. Their surname became Olson.
