Obituary
John Eurich, son of Conrad and Katherine Eurich, was born in Balzar, Russia, November 23, 1879, and passed away in the Friend Hospital January 25, 1956, at the age of 76 years, 2 months, and 2 days.
He left Russia with his parents when he was only eight years old and came to Friend where he spent the rest of his life.
On March 18, 1904, he was united in marriage to Nellie Banka and they settled down to farm life in the Friend community where they lived until a year and a half ago, when they moved to town due to ill health. Twelve childrn were born to the Eurich family and all survive except Leone, who passed away at the age of 16 years.
John was confirmed in the German Congregational Church but joined the Methodist Church following his marriage and then later joined the Congregational Church in Friend, where he remained an active member until his death. During the months of his illness, he often said he wished it were possible for him to attend the worship services.
He was a faithful worker until his health failed, and one who was always ready to help a friend in need. He will be long remembered by his many friends.
John eurich is survived by his loving wife; Nellie; seven daughters, Mrs. Esther Conner of Friend, Mrs. Ruth Suhr of Staplehurst, Mrs. Irene Gifford of Polk, Mo., Mrs. Clara Witter of Crete, Mrs. Lena Burkhart of Daykin, Mrs. Freda Keller of Crete, and Mrs. Lillian Bowers of Topeka, Kans.; four sons, Albert, Lyman and Franklin of Friend, and Conrad of New York; four sisters, Misses Mary and Hotilda Eurich of Friend, Mrs. Mollie Asmus of Utica, and Mrs. Emelia Himback of Sunnyside, Wash. a brother Alec, of Vancouver, Wash.; 22 grand-children and one great grandson, other relatives, and many friends.
Funeral services were Thursday afternoon at the Congregational Church at Friend, with Rev. Marvin Williams officiating. Interment was in the Turkey Creek Cemetery southwest of Friend.
